Planning the Story

Hello everyone! In today's post, we want to talk about how we are tackling the design of Chapter 2.

For "Pleasure Thieves," we have a general idea about the plot, but for each new chapter, we have to low down those high-level ideas. It's a challenging process because first, we have to write details for that particular chapter and second because it is where the characters show how they are through their dialogues. To make it more difficult, we also have the events introduced previously that need to fit within the storyline we are telling. We don't want to open branches that we don't know how to close in the future chapters.

To keep the things in order, we use a diagram flow like the one you can see in the screenshot attached to this post. These flows are instrumental in knowing when the events are happening and what characters are involved. And more important, to see what branches lead to certain special events. Events that can help to understand the story but that may not be essential to follow the main story. We consider them as "achievements," and that's why we included the achievements screen at the end of each chapter, so you can see what pieces of the story you haven't seen yet. The rewind button in the main menu allows you to move back and for through the chapter.
